MacDonald Pass: Protecting a Key Wildlife Corridor
The U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Army National Guard are proposing to build a new biathlon training facility directly within an extremely important but narrow wildlife corridor on the continental divide.
The U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Army National Guard are proposing to build a new biathlon training facility (new structures, roads, trails, shoot ranges etc.) directly within an extremely important but narrow (3 miles wide and 26 miles long) wildlife corridor on the continental divide that links up core habitat in two inventoried roadless areas. According to state and federal wildlife biologists, this area provides important structural and functional wildlife connectivity for grizzly bears, lynx, and wolves.
The Western Environmental Law Center is working to protect the integrity of this narrow corridor by ensuring that the proposed facility be moved out of the narrow wildlife corridor, to a more wildlife-friendly location.
