The Western Environmental Law Center is representing the Center for Biological Diversity in challenging the government’s refusal to extend Endangered Species Act protections to the roundtail and headwater chubs and their habitat in Arizona and New Mexico.
The Western Environmental Law Center is representing the Center for Biological Diversity in challenging the government’s refusal to extend Endangered Species Act protections to the roundtail and headwater chubs and their habitat in Arizona and New Mexico. The fish are important indicator species for their current and historic habitat in the rivers of eastern Arizona and western New Mexico, but only occupy a small amount of their historic habitat because of excessive livestock grazing, dams, logging, and other impacts.
UPDATE:
As a result of our suit, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife has agreed to reconsider its decision not to protect these species under the Endangered Species Act. As part of our settlement agreement, the agency will re-issue a decision on listing the fish.
